The most successful British girl-group in pop history, Bananarama formed inLondon in late 1981. Drawing equal inspiration for their name from thechildren’s television program The Banana Splits and the Roxy Music song“Pyjamarama,” the trio comprised lifelong friends Keren Woodward and SarahDallin along with Siobhan Fahey, whom Dallin befriended at the London Collegeof Fashion. After getting their start singing at friends’ parties and atnightclubs (where they performed accompanied by backing tapes — none of the women played their own instruments), they came to the attention of ex-Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, who produced Bananarama’s first single, a cover ofSwahili Black Blood’s “Aie A Mwana.”

The youngest of six children, Adeva joined a church choir at the age of 12 where she remained for 10 years, eventually becoming its director and vocal coach. Her mother was a missionary and her father a deacon, and her parents had once instructed: You sing gospel or nothing at all. Between stints of teaching she found time to take part regularly in talent contests. She was eventually banned from entering several competitions for winning so often and turned professional by starting out on the local club scene in the mid 1980s.

ANBU is een collectief bestaande uit 6 jonge jongens uit het zonnige zuiden: Jiri11, MennoBoomin’, Johnson, Ferrari Jackson, Chacha en dj/videomaker Themlenny. De heren hebben als gezamenlijk doel: van elk optreden een enorme turn up maken.

Glen Faria, beter bekend als MC Fit of Fit, begon als MC in de populaire rapgroep ‘Flinke Namen’. Samen met Murh Mossel, Sef en the Flexican vormde hij deze groep en brachten zij een succesvolle Mixtape (Kunst- en vliegwerk) en album (Superstuntwerk) uit via platenmaatschappij Top Notch. De groep tourde door het hele land langs diverse pop podia (in combinatie met Dio) en festivals (waaronder de Alpha-tent op Lowlands).

Meer dan de zingende opticien

Nederland is een nieuw trio rijker. Zangeressen Elske DeWall, Krystl en Rachèl Louise brengen een ode aan de mooiste Americana en Country songs. De drie powervrouwen die hun sporen individueel hebben verdiend in de Nederlandse muziekscene besloten hun krachten te bundelen toen ze elkaars liefde voor Americana muziek ontdekten. En voilà, de nieuwe formatie ‘The BlueBirds’ is geboren.

Anne-Fay stopte recent met ZO! Gospel Choir en Cookachoo om zich volledig te kunnen focussen op haar solocarrière. Twee jaar lang werkte ze aan haar eigen muziek met producers Mihai Puscoiu en Reynard ‘Mucky’ Bargmann (die ook produceerde voor Wiley en Sevdaliza). Net als haar roots (Nederlands, Surinaams, Afrikaans, en Chinees), werd het een moksi.

Na tien ongelooflijk succesvolle jaren met The Opposites (met o.a. klassiekers als ‘Slaap’, ‘Dom, Lomp en Famous’ en ‘Slapeloze nachten’) won Willem de Bruin in 2014 samen met Big2 de Popprijs. Waarna langzaam het besef indaalde dat ze niet meer in deze formatie terug zouden komen.
